Curriculum
How We TeachIn every classroom there are full time teachers that is responsible for work lesson development. Lesson plans are prepared before the beginning of each week and turned into the Director for review. Lesson plans are checked to ensure age appropriate activities are implemented while reflecting our curriculum.
Two Main Components of the day include: Circle Time Circle time incorporates a discussion of the weekly theme, an introduction to the calendar focusing on the day of the week, month and year, and an overview of the day’s activities to help prepare for transitions. The students are encouraged to participate in discussions and reflections during this time as well. Children are engaged in auditory learning throughout circle time. Each individual child is always encouraged to interact amongst his or her peers and teachers as part of early childhood development objectives. Center Time Center time allows students to enhance their socialization and creativity skills. There are seven basic centers strategically arranged to engage children in learning and accessible each day. These centers are Home-living, Construction, Art, Handwriting/Language, Reading, Manipulatives, and Sensory. Each center focuses on increasing fine motor skills, critical thinking skills, hand-eye coordination, and one-to-one correspondence. |
Monthly Themes/AssessmentsThe Learning Center for Excellence utilizes Creative Curriculum®
We supplement with lessons from a character development curriculum – including the Kindness Curriculum®. The Creative Curriculum® is based on goals and objectives that are age appropriate. Our preschool lesson plans have weekly, engaging theme-based activities. Assessments What sets our preschool apart from the rest? At the beginning of the new academic year, we do in-house academic assessments for the teachers to ascertain what goals they have already mastered and what goals to focus on. Our preschool teachers use them to as a reference throughout the academic year for lesson planning and to do a final assessment for parents one month before the academic year is complete. We arrange parent conferences as needed/requested to discuss a child’s progress anytime during the year. |
CommunicationsWhat sets our preschool apart from the rest?
Parent communication is a priority for all staff members. For all classrooms communication with parents is done via a program called Brightwheel. Brightwheel can be accessed by downloading an app or signing onto a website. All information posted to Brightwheel is logged to a particular child, so a parent only receives information about their child. Throughout the day, teachers add information to each child’s “daily sheet” concerning things like diapering/pottying, feeding and naps. Teachers also post a notes of their daily lesson plans so parents can view the different activities throughout the day. Teachers can post pictures of the children during activities such as centers, art, sensory or playground time. Brightwheel can also be used to send messages between parents and teachers. Parents are encouraged to review the Daily correspondences from the teachers and discuss them with their preschool aged children. |
